It is an arboreal species of the Myrtaceae family, native to southeastern Australia and Tasmania.
Its leaves are oval-lanceolate and its flowers are gathered in inflorescences in umbels of 3 to 7 flowers, the fruit is a woody capsule. The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the leaves.
