Oral temperature:

• Place the end of the thermometer under your tongue as close to the base of the tongue as possible.
• Approximate measurement time 40 seconds.
• Close your mouth for at least 2 minutes before taking temperature for a more accurate measurement.

Axillary temperature (under the arm): clean the axillary area with a dry towel and place the thermometer in contact with the skin perpendicular to the body.

• The arm in a crossed position over the chest will allow the end of the thermometer to be completely covered.
• Approximate measurement time: 1 minute.
• Axillary temperatures are generally 0.5ºC lower than oral temperature.
• Hold your arm next to your body for at least 5 minutes before reading for a more accurate measurement.

Rectal temperature:

• Apply a water-soluble lubricant to the end of the thermometer. Gently insert the end of the thermometer into the rectum (maximum 0.5 cm).
• Approximate measurement time: 40 seconds.
• The rectal temperature is generally 0.5ºC higher than the oral temperature reading.
