It is a sedative of the sympathetic nervous system and has an antispasmodic effect, which causes coronary vasodilation that improves myocardial regeneration. It is indicated as a light sedative. A decoction of Hawthorn reduces cholesterol levels in humans. In another study, hawthorn decreased low-density lipoprotein levels, weight, and body fat in animals.
